When it comes to technological advancements, it’s no surprise that the adult film industry is at the very forefront of progress. With virtual reality finally hitting its stride this year, it didn’t surprise me at all to find out that VR adult films, which had been the talk of the industry for years, were becoming a real thing that people were going out of their way to watch. However, what did surprise me was finding out that one of the adult films being brought into the future was Kim Kardashian’s sex tape, which has been turned into a virtual reality experience courtesy of Vivid Entertainment, the company that brought us the original tape.You might find yourself tired of hearing about this sex tape, primarily for the same reasons you might be tired of hearing all about Kim Kardashian herself. However, we need to talk about this, because this is basically virtual reality hitting the mainstream and even paving its way into the future. Here’s everything you really want to know about this tape, and about the VR adult film industry.

Vivid Entertainment made a VR version of Kim Kardashian’s sex tape. They unveiled it as a new experience that gives the film a new life. When you put on the goggles, you’ll find yourself on a bed, watching the tape. However, the VR version of the tape takes this one step further. When the tape ends, you’ll see a lookalike step into the frame. That lookalike will then perform specifically for you, saying things like "I know you bought the video because you wanna see me. Why don’t we just play here?”

We have no way of knowing whether Kim actually approved of this. Somehow, I don’t see her approving a VR version of her sex tape complete with a lookalike (that’s actually pretty uncanny) pleasuring herself with a dildo for someone else’s enjoyment, but then again, these are the Kardashians and they’ve approved crazier things.

Vivid Entertainment is currently charging something like $119.97 a year for membership to the site. That might sound expensive to us, people who don’t have a VR setup, but for those that do that are partial to adult films, that money might be a small price to pay. There are other companies doing this as well. Pornhub’s actually offering their crop of VR adult films for free!

Lots of people have reviewed VR adult films, and everyone has said that the experience is a wild one. Raymond Wong reviewed VR adult films made by Naught America, which is one of the biggest adult film production companies in the country, and he had a lot to say about the experience. He even said that people who’ve experienced this might have a hard time going back to the regular 2D adult films.

Raymond Wong described the film that he watched, and said that “things got really weird.” The video he watched began with a female performer talking dirty to him, and the realization that he was put in the point of view of the muscular male performer in the video. That made things weird for him when a second girl came into the room and they both started performing oral sex on him in virtual reality.

While the Naughty America videos have a limited view, that didn’t seem to matter in the long run. Raymond mentioned that if he turned his head too far to the left or right, all he saw was black. However, that ended up not being too much of an issue because the more he watched the female performers, the more he “visualized being the VR [adult film] guy.”

A Naughty America spokesperson brought up a good point about the POV. According to the spokesperson, every VR adult film Naughty America only has a POV experience of about 180 degress. However, what are the chances that you’re going to be looking around and checking out the rest of the virtual room when you have virtual people having sex with you, anyway?

That wasn’t the only video Raymond watched, either. He noted the hyper-realism of the videos when he recounted the experience for Mashable. “During another VR [adult film] video, a [adult film] star leaned in so close to lock lips with me that I recoiled back because her VR presence was so real. In a different VR [adult film] video, where I dropped into a female body, a male [adult film] star who was thrusting into “me” was so up in my personal space, I swear I smelled his armpits. There wasn’t, of course, any smell.”

There’s not a lot of this content out there right now. For example, Naughty America only has maybe two dozen VR videos for its subscribers to watch. However, that’s going to change, because not only are they making one or two new ones a week, but other companies are rapidly adding their own VR adult films to the collection. As virtual reality becomes more commonplace, we can assume that VR adult films will too.

There are video games marrying VR tech with physical sex toys. For example, there’s a game called Custom Maid 3D, where you make your own maid to your specifications and navigate the game using a controller that goes around your penis. You also use that to have sex with the game avatar, too. There’s also a creepy game where the user has sex with the Japanese virtual pop star Hatsune Miku.

There’s another one, but it’s not exactly AAA quality. A game called Chathouse 3D uses the Oculus Rift, and it’s an interactive social network where people who are feeling particularly horny can customize an avatar that has sex with other people’s avatars. It even has its own game specific currency. However, the game is pretty deeply flawed. The game’s avatars are pretty sub-par, and the game itself has been called a "disorienting horrible mess.“ Basically, this is way more likely to give you a headache than turn you on.

All of this involves something called teledildonics, and it’s very male centric. The guys behind Chathouse 3D are more interested in adding a lot of new features, like “shop system integration” than they are in giving women a way to play. The absence of women hasn’t done anything to make them lose money, though: it turns out that they have more than 180,000 people playing and counting.

Needless to say, the VR adult industry is a young one, and they make mistakes. As the technology becomes available and gets more advanced, the better they can make adult films and adult games that are actually worth sitting though. Back when the games were created, creating VR adult films was a lot more trouble than it was worth, because it was a lot of effort for something that looked subpar.

Regardless, this is a growing industry, and it’s definitely something we should watch. While most of us are perfectly happy with our regular, run of the mill, two-dimensional adult films. the time might come where the majority of adult films that are made will be made with the Oculus Rift or some other VR device in mind. The Oculus Rift finally made it onto the market this year, so that time might be much closer than we think.

What Your Vote In The 2016 Election Says About Your Sex Life, According To Science

He’s right. You’re left. Are you doomed to break up? Maybe not.  But are you doomed to encounter sexual conflict? Apparently.  Turns out, your politics say a lot more about your sex life than meets the eye. In other words, who you vote for in the 2016 election says about your sexual appetite, preferences, and beyond. Indeed, recent research has found all kinds of interesting correlations between your political views and your sexual ones. Curious? You should be! Read on below to find out exactly how your habits inside the voting booth and inside the bedroom collide.

Sexual preferences. Published in the scientific and medical database ScienceDirect, a Personality and Individual Differences study has found that your vote in this election says more about your sex life than you might think. In fact, the research suggests that liberals’ and conservatives’ sexual habits are almost as different as their political stances. Surprise, surprise. When it comes to liberals and conservatives, it turns out they're a lot more liberal and conservative, respectively, in bed than they might outwardly appear.

Liberals. On one end of the political spectrum, there are liberals. Turns out, those on the far left tend to prefer “risky sexual behaviors,” the study, which was aptly subtitled “Do positions in the bedroom affect positions in the ballot box?”, reported. Think: One-night stands, or random BJs in bathroom stalls. You get the idea. Liberals are lot more likely to do things that may not always play out positively for them. But where there's a risk, there's a reward... or an STD.

Conservatives. Obviously, conservatives are on the other end of the political spectrum. Those on far right have far less sexual partners and tend to prefer more “traditional” sex positions, according to the study. Think: Missionary, or spooning. In short, these folks are a lot more vanilla.

Traditional. The study suggests that most conservatives — unlike most liberals — aren’t completely comfortable sleeping with a random person. This makes sense, of course. Just take a look at Mike Pence, Donald Trump’s running mate, who has spent millions of dollars funding abstinence education. (Which has proven to not work, BTW.)

Method. For the study, researchers asked 1,074 participants around the country personal questions about their sexual behaviors. The survey included things like whether or not they used sex toys between the sheets, and how they felt about casual sex (read: if they habitually engage in casual sex).

Findings. So, what’d the scientists find out? People voting blue were not only more likely to have sex with strangers and use sex toys, they also masturbated more. (Go, liberals!) What’s more, they also racked up more lovers than conservatives did. (Once again: Go, liberals!)

Libertarians. What about libertarians? You know, those fellow Americans who fall right in the middle of the political spectrum? Turns out, these select few weren’t into playing with themselves, but totally loved — wait for it — doggy style. Interesting.

Satisfaction. While liberals tend to be on the promiscuous side in comparison to conservatives, that’s not to say they were inherently more satisfied with their orgasms. In fact, the study claims that though those who vote red “engage in a narrower band of activities,” they were more likely to be satisfied with their sex lives overall. (Go, conservatives?)

Intimacy. Of course, there are a number of reasons why the study claims this is true. But one reason, as Elite Daily point outs, is that conservatives have fewer sexual partners overall. This means that in comparison to liberals, they’re more likely to create bonds of emotional intimacy, and thus, feel more comfortable expressing themselves romantically with their lovers.

Oral. When it came to oral sex, what’d the study conclude? Apparently, those pro-oral (which you think would be, like, everyone) were more likely to have voted for Mitt Romney, the Republican Party’s nominee for President of the United States in the 2012 election. Talk about random.

Other studies. Meanwhile, other studies have also revealed quite a bit about people’s sexual preferences in relation to politics. For example, recent data from Match.com showed that Trump supporters were more likely to film themselves in the bedroom in comparison to Clinton fans. In fact, pro-Trump participants were 99 percent more likely than their Clinton counterparts to have a sex tape of themselves.

Other studies. What’s more, Trump supporters were 1,104 percent more likely to expect “sexual contact” on a first date. As Helen Fisher, Ph.D. and advisor to Match.com, explained to The Washington Post, "One thing that Trump doesn’t have is impulse control, and that’s very appealing to this group of people.” Meanwhile, Obama supporters were much more likely to be enthusiasts of BDSM culture.

Love life. Another Match.com study honed in on how politics and dating collide. After surveying over 5,000 single American adults, aged 18 to over 70, the site found that singles who are passionate about politics have 13 percent more orgasms than their less-informed counterparts. What’s more, the survey also revealed that they are 32 percent more likely to have multiple orgasms.

Political apathy. Meanwhile, political apathy was considered a major deal-breaker for a number of American singles. In fact, 25 percent of those surveyed said they wouldn't date someone who isn’t register to vote, according to Refinery29. Meanwhile, 35 percent of participants said they wouldn’t date someone who “does not have an opinion on key and political issues."

Conclusion. The study’s authors concluded that America’s obsession with sex is often misunderstood. "Pundits often decry the public's obsession with sex over substance without realizing that sex is substance," the study reads, according to Glamour. "Electoral campaigns orchestrated around sexual topics are not organized solely for purposes of voyeurism or entertainment, but rather align with individual self-interest."

How Sex Changes When You Get Sober

Substance abuse is a very prominent and real issue that many people have found themselves struggling with. Being an addict affects all aspects of a person’s life, as well as the lives of that person’s surrounding friends and families. Most recovering addicts know that overcoming addiction isn’t easy, but once they do, their entire life changes and they come to realize that doing things sober can be a difficult adjustment to make. Here, women who participated in a study of recovering addicts answered questions about their sex lives, and how being intimate when you’re sober turned out to be a bigger challenge than they ever expected.

Study. Sex. It's on the tip of everyone's tongues. The first thing on many people's minds. But how does sex get impacted by addiction? A study was done and published in a journal called Sexualities that focused on sex and how it changed for women that had previously been addicted to drugs after they got clean and sober.

Participants. The 16 women used in the study were all former drug users ranging between the ages of 26 to 55. Researchers noticed how while sober, the women weren’t as confident about themselves and tended to have an overall negative experience during and after sex, giving them low self-esteem overall.

Challenge. "For the women in our study, the transition from the subcultural drug context into a life without drugs presents a real challenge, especially in managing to decipher the rules and expectations in sexual matters. Basically, this includes everything from flirting to post-coital behavior. Being unaccustomed to managing the different codes in sexually charged situations can create confusion and insecurity and ultimately threaten the individual's sexual confidence and self-esteem,” said the researchers, as reported by Broadly.

Sober. Each woman in the study said they’d used heroin or amphetamines most of the time that they had sex. However at the time of the interview, they were already sober. According to Broadly, each woman described their sex lives before and after drugs to the researchers once they were interviewed, and the researchers took note how being sober had affected each woman’s sex life.

Sex lives. ”Their stories also seemed to indicate a shift over time. What was initially regarded as a positive and sometimes adventurous and unbounded broadening of one's sexual repertoire gradually transformed into something repetitive, diminishing and mechanical,” wrote the researchers, as reported by Broadly.

Confidence. Given the fact that they were on drugs, the women enjoyed sex more while on drugs due to the fact that they had more confidence and less worries about themselves or their bodies. But without the drugs, the women weren’t as relaxed and weren’t able to enjoy sex.

Terrified. The women also felt a sense of shame over things they’d done in the past, which didn’t help in boosting their confidence. One woman in the study named Signe even said how she noted that while she was on drugs, seex was spectacular, but now that she was sober, she was completely “terrified” of sex.

Experiences. Other women also had past negative experiences while still on drugs that they correlated with their sex lives, which also tended to hinder their ability to have sex. Because of this, some of the women said they had chosen to stop having sex all together.

Solution. Other women decided that instead of giving up sex, they would find a different solution to coping with their sex lives. Some women chose to stay away from men they knew could potentially bring them back to their old ways, while other women chose to be with men who also had a history of drug abuse and could relate to them better.

Relief. "I don't think I've ever been without sex for as long as I have now. And it's such a relief not to have to do it! It is pretty much an unspoken rule that we should wait with it, we'll deal with it further along the way,” said one of the participants, as reported by Broadly.

Research. This research is one of the very few studies that have been done despite the fact that sex is usually a huge part of an addict’s life. However in order to help these women cope with their insecurities, they suggested their participants take some time to evaluate and examine their past sex lives in order to be better at peace with themselves and move on.

Knowledge. "Despite the strong connection between drugs and sexuality, there is a gap of knowledge when it comes to the role and meaning of sexuality during this process,” said researcher Anette Skårner, as reported by Broadly.

Help. Skårner hopes that from this study, people will see the importance of investigating further into the sex lives of addicts aside from the huge need of getting these women the help they need to cope and move on.

Science Reveals Asexual People Have Sexual Fantasies, Too

Most people can't even really fathom what it means to be asexual. Sex and sexuality are such integral parts of the general human experience that the idea of not having a sexual preference or attraction creates utter confusion. A recent study has attempted to illuminate the sexual habits of asexual people for just that reason. What was found can help to dispel some of the widely held beliefs about asexuals that have turned out to be inaccurate. Asexuals do have sexual fantasies, for example, and they do enjoy feelings of sexual stimulation – just not the same way you do.

What it means to be asexual. For most people, the concept of asexuality isn't something they ever even think about. Most people assume you have a sexual attraction to someone, whether it's a heterosexual attraction, a homosexual attraction, or other. But asexual people are those who do not possess any kind of sexual attraction to others.

Undefined. While "an absence of sexual attraction" is the working definition for asexual people, it still isn't all that clear. Many professional psychologists and sex experts don't even fully understand what it means to be asexual and are still working to figure it out. For instance, it was once thought that this lack of attraction meant asexuals didn't experience sexuality of any type whatsoever, but now that seems to be wrong.

Misconceptions. Because people largely don't understand what it means to be asexual (unless they themselves are asexual) there are a lot of misconceptions about it. It's also hard to understand something with which you have absolutely no familiarity with. One misconception that many people have regarding asexual people is that they just don't experience feelings of sexual pleasure. This is not true.

Asexual people do experience sexuality. We know, this seems like quite a paradox, but it's true. New details are being uncovered about how asexual people experience sexual pleasure and arousal. In fact, not only do they experience sexuality, but a recent study was done to investigate to what degree.

The study. A group of researchers from the University of British Columbia – Morag Yule, Lori Brotto, and Boris Gorzalka – conducted a survey about asexuality involving 739 people. 351 of them defined themselves as asexual and the rest were not, but they were all asked the same questions about their sexual experiences and fantasies. The results of the survey were recently published in the Archives of Sexual Behavior.

What they found. What the researchers found upon going through the results of the survey was that they apparently have a lot more work to do when it comes to learning about and classifying asexuals. Not only did they discover that a large amount of the asexuals surveyed actually did have sexual fantasies, but they also found other overlaps between sexual and asexual people.

A lot in common. Even though there is an inherent difference between being sexual and being asexual, the two groups had a lot in common. Almost 50% of asexual women and 75% of asexual men reported having sexual fantasies and masturbating. The kinds of sexual fantasies they had also overlapped. How is this possible, you ask? Well, it comes down to one fundamental difference.

Third person. When it comes to asexual people and their sexual fantasies, the major difference is that they don't include themselves in the fantasy. Basically, all of their fantasies occur in third person where they are the voyeur or the observer. They are aroused by witnessing others engage in sexual behavior, even though they themselves don't feel sexual attraction to others.

Masturbation. When you think about it, masturbation isn't just a behavior reserved for those with sexual orientation. What masturbation comes down to is the realization that if you touch yourself a certain way in certain places, it feels damn good! You don't have to have a sexual preference to feel pleasurable sensations. Asexual people can still taste food like sexual people can, so why can't they feel sexual stimulation like sexual people can?

Sexual fantasies. When it comes to sexual fantasies, this recent survey found that asexual and sexual people both have them. The type of sexual fantasy does slightly differ, though. This is the difference between attraction and non-attraction. An asexual person will usually fantasize about sexual acts that don't involve themselves.

Fetishes. One of the more surprising aspects of the study was that the researchers found that fetishes were included in the sexual fantasies shared by sexual and asexual people. Once again, the fetish itself isn't what is important here, it is how the fetish is approached. Most sexual people put themselves into a fetish scenario for feelings of dominance or power, for example. Asexual people enjoy fetishes for more "objective" reasons.

Works of fiction. Some asexuals who partook in the survey also said that in addition to taking the role of voyeur in their sexual fantasies, their fantasies often revolved around fictional characters. This is particularly intriguing to scientists and psychologists. What is it about fictionalized people that is more appealing than real people?

Most people's sexual fantasies involve themselves. A person who is not asexual will generally involve themselves in a sexual fantasy when they are masturbating or dreaming. They don't just think about the sex act itself, but they get turned on by imagining it happening to them. Basically, sexual people are more self-oriented, which is what also makes them attracted to others.

Still much to be learned. This is one of the first studies of its kind and proves how little we truly know about asexuality. There is clearly much work that is left to be done and much left to learn about asexuals, how they experience sexuality, and what it is that makes them not attracted to other people.

Asexual people who haven't had fantasies. It is important to note, though, that there was still a good amount of people in this study that did not report sexual fantasies. Approximately 20% of asexual men and 35% of asexual women who answered the survey questions said they had never experienced sexual fantasy.
