Vogue Superstar Model Death Ruled Suicide; Family Screams It Was Murder

Raugha Athif was a 21-year-old model who graced the covers of Vogue magazine, but she was quoted as saying modeling was just a hobby. The young beauty was a medical student saving for school when she was found hanging by a scarf in her all-girl hostel. Authorities ruled it a suicide, but Athif's father isn't buying it. Her family continues to fight to prove it was a heinous murder.

Raudha Athif. Raudha Athif was a young, beautiful med student living in Bangladesh. She was known for her modeling hobby, but her passion was medicine.

Hostel Life. Athif, who was originally from the Maldives, had been living in an all-girl hostel in Rajshahi while she attended school.

Medical School. Athif had received a scholarship to attend the Islami Bank Medical College in Bangladesh. According to her father, she planned to transfer to a school in Australia next year to finish her medical education.

It's In the Eyes. Athif was discovered by modeling scouts after posting a selfie that highlighted her crystal blue eyes. She was an instant sensation and a natural beauty.

Modeling Career. Even after her photos went viral and she had landed multiple modeling gigs from her striking looks, the young woman stood true to her passion. She was quoted as saying modeling was simply a "hobby rather than a career, since I'm studying to become a doctor."

Vogue. Athif reached the pinnacle of her hobby/career when she made the cover of Vogue in 2016. Her beauty brought the young woman a mountain of attention.

Photo Shoots. Her work as a model showed the world her undeniable beauty. An attention her father is certain is to blame for her death.

Religion. Athif's brother, Rayyan Athif has gone on record to state the area she had been staying in was highly conservative Muslim in concentration and while Athif was a Muslim herself, she did not fall in line with traditional strict guidelines.

Dress Code. Rayyan stated in interviews that his sister made a point of adhering to college dress codes. She made sure to wear a veil over her face while on campus out of respect, but she did not apply this dress code off of campus.

Criticized for Immodest Behavior. The family believes Athif was a target of bullying by fellow Muslims who did not agree with her modern beliefs. Her brother mentioned to authorities that she had mentioned being criticized for wearing jeans and was shamed for being immodest in her apparel choices.

Bullying. The family has spent countless hours researching the death of their loved one. They have continually claimed a suicide was simply not a possibility for the girl. Her brother has passionately stated his bullying theory instead, saying, "other students have also been subjected to this type of bullying."

Grieving Father. Athif's father has tried to appeal to authorities for a reexamination of the case. Recently he was able to get an approval to have a second autopsy performed after he filed a civil complaint with the court system.

Poring Over Evidence. Athif's father has spent countless hours poring over evidence with private investigators he has been in contact with from Australia. He hopes to prove his theory that his daughter was murdered in an effort to bring justice for her.

Strangulation. According to official reports, Athif died of strangulation by hanging. She was found in her hostel room, hanging from the rafters by a scarf. According to the Australian forensic pathologist who reviewed the evidence at the time of the second autopsy, her bruising and ligature marks were inconsistent with a hanging. He stated, "I'd have grave doubts that that ligature (scarf) caused those ligature marks. It just doesn't match. To me, the appearance of those bruises, marks of some type or other, looked very similar to fingers that had caused bruising." The original autopsy stated the bruising was "birthmarks."

The Plea for Justice. In light of the evidence revealed after the second autopsy, Dr. Athif continues his quest to have his daughter's death investigated further as a murder case. He has stated, "I know my daughter has been killed already. I know I won't get her back, but as a father I will get rest only when I get justice to her."
