The six reasons girls AND boys fake orgasms revealed

IT'S something we've all thought about doing, and chances are you have done it at least once.

Both women and, maybe more surprisingly, men fake orgasms.

But being tired and not being in the mood aren't the only reasons, according to a new study.

Rather at looking at how many people fake orgasm researchers from the University of Kansas decided to look at why people would fake the big-O.

They developed a measurement chart called the Pretending Orgasms Reasons Measure (PORM) to better understand why people would lie about the pleasure they get from their lover, according to New York Magazine, The Science of Us.

They then asked more than 1,400 college students about whether they had faked an orgasm and why.

They discovered there were six main reason someone would pretend they reached a climax.

They include:

1. it feels good
2. it's for their partner
3. they're not into sex
4. for manipulation and power
5. they're insecure
6. for emotional communication

They also discovered that 76 per cent of women have faked an orgasm at least once, as had 41 per cent of men.

This is not the first study that has looked into why people, specifically women, may fake it in the throes of passion.

In 2011 researchers found that 54 per cent of women in long-term relationships admitted to faking an orgasm because they thought their partner would stay with the if they did.

It may also be to boost their man's ego.

A study published earlier this year found a woman's orgasm boosts a man's self-esteem and mental health.

In April it was revealed that frustrated Brits fake 100 million orgasms a week and two in three women admitted they fail to climax while having sex.
