It’s been a great year for makeup. From unicorn eyeshadow palettes to rainbow eyebrows... It seems like every day there’s a new beauty trend happening on social media. One of the biggest hits in beauty this year has been the beauty blender. It's a small sponge that can apply foundation almost flawlessly. Beauty bloggers have gotten creative, coming up with their own version of the blenders using everything from condoms to boiled eggs. But one YouTuber takes the cake after she went as far as to use her boyfriend’s testicles to apply her makeup.
Video. Just when you really thought you'd seen it all.. something like this happens. An 18-year-old from Florida named Johnna Hines has gained quite a bit of notoriety on the internet after posting a video of herself applying makeup — with her boyfriend's balls. Hines uploaded the video to Twitter, where it went viral.
Trend. ”I think I started a new Instagram makeup trend,” wrote Hines in the caption. Incidentally, the idea for the video came from Twitter, where Hines ran a poll asking her followers whether or not she should make the video. “Y’all dare me to post a video of me using Damon nuts as a beauty blender?” she wrote.
Viral. The video also gained the attention of many famous beauty bloggers, like Jeffree Star and Manny MUA, who said they were inclined to recreate the video themselves. In the video, Hines says her boyfriends testicles make a good beauty blender because “they’re warm.”
Idea. After her video went viral, Hines was interviewed by Buzzfeed, who asked her where she got the idea. “He's always messing with me so he started putting his balls on my head. I made a joke about using them as a beauty blender and we literally just looked at each other and started laughing and made the video from there,” said Hines.
Comments. Hines says that she’s gotten mixed reviews since posting the video, from some who were able to laugh at the video while shaking their heads, while others shamed her. However, Hines says the negativity doesn’t bother her, as she clearly doesn’t take life too seriously to get upset over some internet trolls.
Reactions. ”I’ve gotten a lot of negative reactions but it doesn’t bother me because the amount of positive things people are saying to me make it worth it I'm getting DM after DM from girls telling me I'm inspiring for being so carefree and confident and so many people love how comfortable my boyfriend and I are together, it feels really good TBH,” said Hines, as reported by Buzzfeed.
Tampons.
While this might just be the craziest thing anyone’s used as a beauty blender, it’s definitely not the only bizarre item people have used to apply make up with. Last month, YouTuber Ashley Blue DeFrancesco make a video of herself applying makeup using a tampon.
Application. In the video, DeFrancesco holds up her beauty blender, tosses it to the side, and then grabs a tampon. After unwrapping it, she pumps liquid foundation onto it, then begins to apply the foundation all over her face.
Look.
She notes that the tampon makes it easy to apply the foundation into small creases like the ones under her eyes and surrounding her nose. After applying her base, she continued to apply the rest of her makeup with regular makeup brushes. Towards the end, she shares the finished look.
Wasteful. ”Tampon or beauty blender YOU DECIDE lol I think we know what we like more. Laugh at this!” DeFrancesco writes in the caption of the video. Those who watched the video left comments saying it seemed pretty wasteful to use tampons for this purpose, considering they were already so expensive as it is.
Comments. ”Tampons, condoms, the sponge from under the sink ... yall stop at nothing for some IG likes,” wrote one commenter. “So not about to waste a tampon on this sh*t. Wtf? I paid 9.28 for a box of 10, y'all must be crazy asf,” said another user.
Backlash. Another person came to the blogger’s defense however, saying that if you think about it, people waste just bout anything, from makeup, wipes, napkins, and so on. And regardless of all the backlash, the video still got over 400,000 views.
Condoms. Condoms have also been used as makeup applicators in what seems like a neverending craze to try and come up with the craziest beauty blenders. Another YouTuber named Laila Tahri posted a video of herself using a beauty blender wrapped in a condom to apply foundation.
Plan. ”I wasn’t really expecting this to blend out my foundation so beautifully,” she explained. “I came up with this plan and I didn't know if it was going to work but yeah I really like it,” she said.
