Scientists say that they have finally worked out the reason for the female orgasm, and they say that women may have monkeys to thank for the gift!Science has always been baffled by the human female orgasm because, unlike in other animals, it plays no part in reproduction.
They have now declared it a vestige of evolution, “an afterthought … left from our ape ancestors,” and offer a theory for why as many as a third of women can’t climax during sex.

Scientists say they know why women orgasm. Scientists say that they have finally worked out why human females orgasm. After years of being baffled because it does not serve reproduction like it does in other animals, scientists say that it appears the female orgasm is “an afterthought of evolution,” left to women by their ape ancestors.

The female orgasm is redundant. According to researchers, the link between the female orgasm and reproduction was lost when the clitoris in women moved from inside the vaginal canal to the outside. This essentially made the female orgasm redundant, they say because the human female could no longer be stimulated into ovulation by the male like what occurs with other mammals.

The female orgasm is an evolutionary leftover. Scientists found that the hormones released when a woman has an orgasm are almost the same as those released in other mammals as a precursor to ovulation. This led researchers to explore the theory that the female orgasm had a function in the past.
The hormones released during the female orgasm continue to make sex pleasurable. Scientists say that the female orgasm once triggered ovulation but that humans have evolved to a point where this now happens on its own. The hormonal changes that accompanied the female orgasm, however, have remained, and this continues to make sex enjoyable.

Theory may explain why some women no longer climax. There is a suggestion that some women have lost the ability to orgasm because it no longer has a biological purpose. According to one researcher, Mihaela Pavlicev, from Cincinnati Children’s Hospital in Ohio, this explanation can help to remove “a lot of the stigma” attached to “underwhelming sexual relations.”

As many as one-third of women don’t have an orgasm during sex. According to the study that prompted the new theory, the redundancy of the female orgasm and the evolutionary shift of the clitoris from its position in the vagina to being outside might explain the low propensity to orgasm in as many as one-third of women. The shift in the position of the clitoris has moved it out of reach of stimulation from the penis, a feature that would have induced ovulation in the past, and this too may explain why the female orgasm has become “relatively rare.”
Theory focuses strictly on biology. While other theories for the dearth in the female orgasm have focused on “poor partner performance, psychological issues, or physiological shortfalls,” this theory is completely centered on biology and on the effects of evolution. Some scientists say that more evidence is needed as the theory currently only makes links between the “hormonal surges in females during male-induced ovulation and orgasm.”

Other researchers found a way to boost the female orgasm. Earlier this year, another team of researchers said that they have uncovered the mechanics of the female orgasm. Dubbed the “golden trio,” researchers say that a combination of “genital stimulation, deep kissing, and oral sex,” increases the likelihood of a woman reaching climax.

There are multiple orgasm gaps. Researchers say that while they confirmed an “orgasm gap” between men and heterosexual women, they also uncovered others, like between heterosexual women and lesbian women. There are “multiple orgasm gaps,” they say.
Music, different sexual positions and the words “I love you” also matter. While very little affects the male orgasm, researchers found that in contrast, there were some features that appear to make a difference to the female orgasm. When a woman took part in a sexual experience that included music, a change of sexual position, and the words, “I love you,” she was 20% more likely to climax during sex.

Faking orgasms replace the real ones. The researchers also found that women might be cheating themselves out of the orgasms they deserve by pretending that they had already had one. Women fake orgasm for a number of reasons, say the researchers, including wanting to protect their partner’s self-esteem and wanting the sexual encounter to come to an end.

Women who have frequent orgasms have longer sexual encounters. Studying 52,000 men and women between the ages of 18 and 65 years old, the researchers found that women who had frequent orgasms reported having sex that was longer in duration and also feeling more satisfied in their relationships generally. Researchers say that there appeared to be links between things like flirting with a partner throughout the day and more frequent orgasms.
Women’s sexual preferences vary widely. There are wide variations between what will make one woman reach climax as compared to another, say the researchers. This makes “explicit and direct communication with one’s partner” key to satisfying sex.

The value placed on the female orgasm could also be a contributing factor. A sociologist and sexologist from Finland, Osmo Kontula, says that while the research findings match the results of other studies, there may remain some factors that are overlooked. The value that is placed on the female orgasm, he says, as well as “sexual desire, ability to concentrate and sexual self-esteem,” may all be contributory factors to the female orgasm.

Bring the “golden trio” into your bedroom tonight. Women should, however, consider the “golden trio,” especially if they are less than satisfied with their sex lives. Sit with your partner and talk about how greater genital stimulation, oral sex, and deep kissing could make a difference to your sexual encounters.
